For the making of Worldwide, the artist traced the shape of a pixelated world atlas. Philippe Safire likes to combine sculpture and video projection, but the present work also makes use of transparency and animation. The piece allows the viewer to see through and move around it. Random characters flash over pink, orange, green, and blue squares depicting the chaotic sharing of data between communication networks. Traditional maps use contrasted colors to delineate states and continents. Safire’s work reflects the universality of the internet and how digital technologies define a new globalized world.
