Digital Age is a multimedia installation in three dimensions suspended above the exhibition space. A perpetual flux of characters are projected on the sculpture. Signs are interchanged at random, producing continuous changes in lighting. The work stands between reality and virtuality—an excerpt of a larger space of codes, algorithms, emails, texts, backups, updates… By isolating different signs (numbers, letters and other characters), Philippe Safire highlights both the meaning of the sign and its aesthetic dimension. Inspired by ancient civilizations, Safire incorporates the theme of writing in his work and depicts the digital as a form of writing.
